In celebration of Black History Month, Zenith Wealth Partners is shining a spotlight on the incredible organizations making a lasting impact on their communities. Today, we are honored to share an in-depth conversation with Tracey A. McLaughlin, the President of The Ivy Legacy Foundation.
Founded with a commitment to service and empowerment, the Ivy Legacy Foundation works to uplift and inspire future generations by providing scholarships, mentorship, and community-focused programs. In this interview, Tracey discusses the foundation’s mission, the importance of community support, and how they are shaping the lives of young individuals for years to come.
How do you see the racial wealth gap impacting the communities you serve, and what challenges do you face in addressing it?
“The racial wealth gap limits access to quality education, housing, and economic opportunities. Many students attend underfunded schools and struggle to afford higher education. While we provide scholarships, the challenge is that tuition and related costs often exceed what we can offer, making it difficult for students to stay in school.“
Can you highlight a project your organization leads that is driving significant impact?
“Our annual fundraiser, Philly’s Men Are Cookin’, helps fund scholarships and community/mentoring programs. In 2023, we raised over $40,000, allowing us to award more than $40,000 in scholarships in 2024. We also provide grants to local nonprofits, amplifying our impact in the Philadelphia area.”
How do you ensure your work stays aligned with the values of equity, inclusion, and justice, particularly when faced with systemic challenges?
“We prioritize these values by offering scholarships to underrepresented students and funding community programs that address disparities. We also focus on improving operational efficiencies to sustain and expand our mission.”
What motivates you to push through the challenges you encounter in your work?
“Seeing students succeed through scholarships, mentorship, or community programs keeps us motivated. Their achievements reinforce the importance of our work.”
What are your hopes for racial wealth equity, and how do you believe the nonprofit sector should evolve to meet these needs?
“We hope to see equal access to education and economic opportunities. Our goal is to establish endowed scholarships for long-term student support. Partnering with businesses and other nonprofits will help expand our reach and create lasting impact.”
